Sydney Town Hall Reopens For Events

 
 

Following a $40 million essential services, internal safety and fire services upgrade, Sydney Town Hall recently hosted its first gala event in nearly two years and is planning for a busy year ahead.

A spectacular awards ceremony and gala dinner was held in the Centennial and Lower Town Hall areas in January 2010 and has been labeled a great success by organisers.

"Our event was fantastic, and the service and delivery from the staff at Sydney Town Hall was beyond expectations. The venue looked absolutely amazing and we feel very lucky to be the first event in the newly refurbished building," Yvonne Christensen, Event Manager.

Sydney Town Hall features two spectacular large scale venue spaces housed within the stunning 19th century building. A recent upgrade of the building has seen the extensive refurbishment and transformation of the Lower Town Hall in to a boutique multi-purpose area for events and exhibitions; audio visual improvements throughout the building; new catering facilities; a new function room in the former vaults of the building; and a new multifunctional exhibition space for a wide range of exhibitions and special events.

Numerous environmentally sustainable design principles have also been incorporated into the refurbishment, including new energy efficient lighting systems and solar panels.

The combined Centennial Hall and Vestibule is undoubtedly the most spectacular and iconic event space in Sydney, with features including:

  • Traditional Victorian era architecture with a richly moulded and ornamented ceiling, polished marble and parquetry floors, stained glass, crystal chandelier and extravagant Grand organ
  • Spacious, flexible stage arrangements and comprehensive backstage facilities
  • Capacity to cater for events for up to 800 people banquet style, 1500 cocktail or 2000 theatre style
  • Equipped with the latest technology in sound reinforcement and concert lighting, as well as full Wi-Fi connectivity
  • A digital 30,000 watt sound system designed to accommodate a wide range of applications from high profile international concerts to AGM's and other special events

The Lower Town Hall is a unique multi-purpose venue, suited to exhibitions and displays.

  • Original features have been retained, including high ceilings, Australian Cedar joinery, cast iron pillars and polished wooden floors
  • A stunning new dedicated foyer area with direct access from Druitt Street featuring registration and reception facilities
  • The ability to accommodate up to 40 3x3m² booths
  • Equipped with in-house technical facilities that can support a variety of lighting schemes, sound and data systems including hearing induction loop and Wi-Fi

Sydney Town Hall is located in the heart of the CBD and is easily accessible by public transport.
